Lakers jersey history No. 66 — Andrew Bogut

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.

During the Lakers’ 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.

Andrew Bogut was a highly touted center coming out of the University of Utah in 2005. He won Naismith College Player of the Year and John R. Wooden Award honors that season by averaging 20.4 points, 12.2 rebounds and 1.85 blocks a game, and he was the No. 1 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks.

He earned an NBA championship ring in 2015 as the Golden State Warriors’ starting center. Late in the summer of 2017, the Lakers signed him. He spent one season with them and averaged 1.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in nine minutes a game.

After suffering numerous injuries, Bogut simply wasn’t the same player he was earlier in his career when he regularly averaged double figures in scoring. After playing with the Lakers, he returned to his native Australia and spent the 2018-19 campaign with the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League before finishing that season with Golden State. That would be his last season in the NBA, and he ended up with league career averages of 9.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
