A helicopter rescued a hiker on the trails behind the Palm Springs Art Museum after they became weak and dehydrated from walking more than a mile.
Palm Springs fire spokesperson Capt. Ronald Skyberg said aircraft had to be called into aid the hiker at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. He said the hiker was dehydrated and feeling weak, but was not injured.
Shortly after, a fire department official said the hiker had been successfully airlifted by a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department helicopter and taken in an ambulance.
At the time of the call for help, the National Weather Service said the temperature in Palm Springs was 104 degrees. The NWS says such weather is considered high risk for outdoor activity. The agency suggests people drink one to two liters of water per hour to stay hydrated.
