A woman accused of conspiring with her husband when he and a second man robbed and killed a Rochester Hills businessman in 2024 will spend up to two decades in prison, an Oakland County judge ordered.
Amanda Ileana Hernandez, 34, of Lincoln Park was sentenced Wednesday to 57 months to 20 years in prison for conspiracy to commit home invasion, court records show.
Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Nanci Grant also sentenced Hernandez to one to five years for accessory after the fact to a felony and one to two years for conspiracy to commit false representation of a public utility worker. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the sentences will run concurrently or whether Hernandez must serve them consecutively.
Her attorney, Scott Kozak, didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.
Hernandez’s husband, Carlos Hernandez, 38, and his co-defendant, Joshua Zuazo, 40, have both been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. They were convicted of first-degree murder by juries in October 2025.
Authorities said that on Oct. 11, 2024, the two men went to the home of 72-year-old pawn shop owner Hussein Murray while posing as DTE Energy workers.
After Murray let them inside, the men lured him into the basement, where they beat and killed him, prosecutors said. The suspects then returned upstairs, where they tied up Murray’s wife, Linda, and robbed the home.
Carlos Hernandez was arrested in Louisiana, while Zuazo was apprehended in Michigan days after the killing.
Prosecutors said that text messages showed that Amanda Hernandez helped the men prepare for the home invasion and wanted to use the stolen money to buy a new home.
In addition to prison time, was also ordered Wednesday to pay $334 in fees and court costs, records show. She is banned from having any contact with her co-defendants or the victims’ family.
Amanda Hernandez received credit for 197 days she’s already spent behind bars, records show.
