Hesperia Lake Park fully reopened following last year’s severe storm

The Hesperia Recreation and Park District recently announced the full reopening of Hesperia Lake Park, which endured severe storm damage around Christmas Day 2025.

Park district officials said clean-up and repair efforts also resulted in the opening of the park’s Val Shearer Arena and Equestrian Center.

The storm caused significant impacts throughout district facilities, requiring temporary closures to ensure public safety while repairs and restoration work were completed, district officials stated.

District staff, contractors, and community partners worked on the reopening of affected facilities, which are now open to the public.

The park district did not disclose the cost of repairs to Hesperia Lake Park, Live Oak Park and Timberlane Park.

Christmas storm

The Christmas Eve storm in 2025 brought flooding and forced road closures across the High Desert and region, prompting Gov. Gavin Newsom to issue a regional “state of emergency,” the Daily Press reported.

The downpour on Wednesday, Dec. 24 continued past Christmas and flooded out streets and roadways. It also prompted evacuation warnings and “shelter in place” orders in some hardest-hit communities.

The storm prompted city of Hesperia officials to close nearly a dozen roadways because of flooding or damage.

Fishing and soccer

Hesperia Lake began its phased reopening with a soft opening on April 14, 2026. One week later, the district resumed fishing operations and reopened the lake store.

The district celebrated the lake reopening with a special double-fish stocking and a lightning trout release.

The district recently fired up a giant monitor and hosted a 2026 World Cup-themed “International Soccer Viewing Party” at Hesperia Lake, with the final match scheduled there on July 19.

“Hesperia Lake and the Val Shearer Arena are treasured community assets, and we know how important they are to our residents and visitors,” said Park District General Manager Robert Hernandez. “We appreciate the patience and support shown by our community  throughout the recovery process and are proud to welcome everyone back to enjoy these facilities.”

Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of Hesperia Lake’s current Night Fishing season, which runs from May 22 through Sept. 12.

Hesperia Lake Park is located at 7500 Arrowhead Lake Road in Hesperia.
