Bureau of Land Management seeks applicants for Barstow park ranger job

The Bureau of Land Management has announced a job opening for a non-law enforcement, seasonal park ranger in the Barstow area. 

Eligibility for the Mojave Desert-based position extends to U.S. citizens and federal employees experiencing job transitions in the local area.

Ranger duties include responding to off-highway vehicle (OHV) emergencies, providing pertinent information, conducting permit compliance checks, and performing safety inspections.

The ranger will also be responsible for educating visitors about responsible OHV use on public lands, monitoring trail compliance, identifying potential damage to roads and trails, and conducting maintenance.

The job also involves managing wilderness study areas and dispersed recreation sites.

Applicants are also required to possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license, pass tests for illegal drug use and a pre-employment physical, and agree to wear an officially approved uniform while on duty.

Applicants can qualify based on experience or education, or a combination of both.

This role requires applicants to pass a pre-employment physical, as the work involves physical exertion in rugged, outdoor environments, often in remote, potentially primitive camping conditions.
