Evan Mobley rises above recent struggles and helps Cavs win

Evan Mobley continues to show why he is the big X-factor for the Cleveland Cavaliers in this NBA postseason. For most of this second-round series versus the Detroit Pistons, Mobley has struggled to post big offensive numbers. Against the Toronto Raptors in Round 1, Mobley had 3 20-point performances. Prior to Game 4, Mobley hadn’t scored more than 14 points in any game against the Pistons.

In Game 4, he did outplay his highest total of 14 points, but not by a wide margin, as he only posted 17 points. He had a well-rounded performance that led to a crucial win for the Cavaliers, who tied the series 2-2. Evan Mobley had 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 5 blocks. He stuffed the stat sheet all night versus the Pistons, making his presence felt everywhere.

In games where Donovan Mitchell scores 43 points and James Harden drops 24, all Mobley really needs to do is be a complementary piece to that. He did just that, and with his great defensive performance, he was able to limit the Pistons’ second option so far in these playoffs, Tobias Harris, to just 16 points.

It is games like this that showcase the type of player Evan Mobley can be for the Cavaliers, and that is a player whose ceiling is very high. If Mobley is able to find his rhythm scoring, this series can really swing back in the Cavaliers’ favor for good.
