A new study looked at where diners across the U.S. can find the cheapest — and priciest — pizza, and unsurprisingly, California is one of the most expensive states.
The Golden State ranked as the second most expensive place in the country to buy a medium cheese pizza, according to a study from the credit union NetCredit.
In addition to identifying which states have the cheapest and most expensive pizza, the analysis examined prices across 70 major cities, where California metros dominated the list of the most expensive locations.
The study also compared prices at the 10 most popular pizza chains, finding that Little Caesars offered the cheapest option, with an average medium cheese pizza costing $10.27, about 46% less expensive than competitors Pizza Hut and Domino’s, according to the credit union.
To crunch the numbers, NetCredit found the price of a medium cheese pizza on GrubHub and DoorDash for each of the 10 pizza chains in 180 U.S. cities, including the top 100 U.S. cities and three of the most populous in each state, the study says.
