Palo Cedro man dies after boat crash at Shasta Lake

A Palo Cedro man died and two others were injured during a single vessel boating accident on Shasta Lake at Town Creek Cove on the Sulanharas Creek.

Officials with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said a vessel hit the shoreline at about 5:21 p.m. on June 18.

Three passengers on the boat were ejected, the Sheriff’s office said. Another civilian vessel in the area took the three victims to Bridge Bay Marina.

The adult male and juvenile were treated at a local hospital, where the man later died. He has been identified as 47-year-old Vingenzo Anthony Colletti of Palo Cedro. Colletti’s next-of-kin have been notified and a postmortem examination is being scheduled, authorities said.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit responded to the scene to assume the investigation. They believed the juvenile was wearing a Personal Floatation Device at the time of the collision, the two adults onboard were not.

This incident remains under investigation by the Boating Safety Unit and the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to always have proper safety equipment while on waterways and to always wear a Personal Floatation Device.
