Over the last few months, several former San Francisco 49ers have found their next team to play for, but there are still a few who are searching for a new home for the 2026 season.
Last week, NFL.com’s Greg Rosenthal updated his free agency rankings, which started with 101 players at the beginning of the offseason, but only 11 of those original 101 are unsigned.
However, two of them are former 49ers. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, originally ranked at No. 61, is now the third-best player on the market.
“Deebo looked like his old self in Washington for stretches,” Rosenthal wrote. “His burst seems to come and go these days, so a role with reduced snaps could maximize his impact. “
San Francisco traded the 30-year-old to Washington after six seasons with the 49ers. He appeared in 16 games last year and caught 72 passes for 727 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 75 yards and one touchdown.
The other former 49er to make the list is quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who was at No. 96 but is now ninth.
“Sean McVay trusted him to back up Matthew Stafford, and there were whispers last offseason (before Stafford returned) that Jimmy G might run the show,” Rosenthal wrote. “That’s a good enough endorsement for me.”
The 34-year-old spent six seasons in San Francisco before leaving in 2023. He spent one year with the Las Vegas Raiders and the last two as Stafford’s backup. However, after Los Angeles took Ty Simpson in the first round of this year’s draft, they haven’t shown much interest in bringing him back.
