Allegiant Air, the ultra-low-cost carrier, has recently dropped seven airports and eliminated 61 routes, including five at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport among a dozen in Florida, according to Simple Flying. The airline says the change reflects its normal seasonal planning process rather than a broader reduction in service.
But Allegiant has also added 63 routes, including four at Fort Lauderdale among a handful in Florida, and added service to eight airports in the last year, the carrier said.
Allegiant flies to and from Palm Beach International Airport but none of their flights have been changed.
Simple Flying compared data from the aviation analysis site OAG from last year to this year to determine Allegiant’s available network for July 2026. In the past few months, Allegiant has dropped service to seven airports: Los Angeles International Airport, Oakland International Airport, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Norfolk International Airport, Columbia Metropolitan Airport, Grand Forks International Airport, and San Diego International Airport, the site reported.
Allegiant Air reported strong first-quarter earnings and disputed the characterization that it is broadly cutting service or making a sweeping network reduction.
“Adjusting routes, including placing some on seasonal hiatus, is a longstanding and intentional part of Allegiant’s business model,” the company said in a statement to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
Two of the Florida routes named by Simple Flying as being canceled, between Orlando Sanford International Airport and Provo, Utah, and between Punta Gorda Airport and Syracuse, New York, are scheduled to return this winter, according to Allegiant’s website.
Why is Allegiant dropping airports, flights?
Although Allegiant reported an increase of 9.6% in operating revenue year over year in its most recent earnings call, the carrier expects its second-quarter capacity to be down 6.5% due to the ongoing situation in Iran and the blocked Strait of Hormuz, and increased airport capital project costs, Inc.com reported.
Allegiant said many of the routes referenced in Simple Flying’s analysis continue to operate seasonally or are in their normal hiatus period and are expected to return when additional 2027 schedules are released later this year.
The carrier also said it has launched 63 new routes and added service to eight airports since July 2025 as part of an ongoing strategy to shift capacity to markets with stronger customer demand.
