We tried to get an Aldi blind box. They went fast. Here's how it went

Free Aldi mystery grocery boxes were in high demand on Monday, with online wait times to check out for the goodies at more than 40 minutes. Most came away with nothing.

The low-cost grocer launched the June 22-25 Aldi Blind Box limited-time online giveaway, with the grocery bundles being shipped to shoppers’ homes.

The boxes contain “ALDI fan-favorite products, standout staples and fresh picks from across every aisle,” the company said.

Four types of themed boxes are available; a different one each day:

The giveaways start at noon Eastern Time each day, when Aldi releases a new mystery box at aldiblindbox.com.

What happened with the Aldi Blind Box giveaway?

On June 22, participants who clicked on the order button were met with a series of photo pages to click on to verify they were human. Once past that, a screen notified them of the estimated wait times for checkout.

The first themed box in the giveaway series was the Snacks Blind Box.

IndyStar tried and got a 41-minute wait time notice, only to be met at the end with a pop-up saying the item was “Out of Stock.”

It was a long shot.

Before the launch, Aldi did not say how many of the bundles are up for grabs, only that there are “extremely limited quantities.” More recently, the retailer has said “more than 100” of the Blind Boxes would be available each day.
