SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame football hit the legacy button again Monday. This time it netted the Irish a double dose of Julius Jones’ progeny.
Four-star wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, FL’s St. Thomas Aquinas gave his verbal commitment to the Irish as part of its top-three 2027 recruiting class.
Younger brother Andre Jones, a four-star safety in the 2028 recruiting cycle, also gave his pledge to the school where their father starred at running back from 1999-2003.
The elder Jones, who rushed for 1,268 yards as a senior, went on to surpass 5,000 rushing yards in his seven-year NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints.
Julius Jones Jr., listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, chose Notre Dame over fellow finalist Miami. Jones made his announcement on ESPN.
Jones is ranked 75th nationally by 247Sports Composite and 12th at his position.
In leading St. Thomas Aquinas to a third straight 5A Florida state title last fall, Jones hauled in 58 catches for 876 yards and 14 touchdowns. His career totals thus far: 120 receptions for 1,843 yards and 22 scores.
He is on track to join a wide receiver room that already includes NFL legacies such as Devin Fitzgerald (Larry), Elijah Burress (Plaxico), Kaydon Finley (JerMichael) and Jerome Bettis Jr.
Julius Jones Jr. also ran track as a junior, posting times of 10.52 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.93 seconds in the 200 meters. He is considered to be a willing blocker with strong hands and after-the-catch elusiveness.
Andre Jones, listed at 6-foot and 170 pounds, is rated No. 315 nationally in the 2028 class by 247Sports Composite. Among safeties in his class, he ranks 29th.
The younger Jones picked the Irish over the likes of Florida State, Penn State, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech and UCLA.
Notre Dame’s 2027 class has secured just one other commitment from a wideout thus far: three-star Jackson Coleman of Littleton, CO.
