Walker Kessler isn’t the only newcomer to the Los Angeles Lakers who should have a sizable impact. Guard Collin Sexton will be coming in off the bench to score, handle the ball and create pace, and while he may not win the Sixth Man of the Year award, he should give their bench a big boost.
Kessler and Sexton played together on the Utah Jazz for three seasons, so they could end up having some nice chemistry this coming season. During his first media availability as a member of the Lakers, Sexton explained the one quality that will make Kessler a great fit for the team.
“I would say his mindset,” Sexton said. “I would say his mindset and being able to come in and give it his all each and every night. He’s one of those people that’s very competitive. I feel like the culture here is trying to bring good guys in who are ready to compete each and every night and give it their all.”
Kessler will give L.A. a center who is 7-foot-2 and is an elite shot-blocker, rim-protector and rebounder, as well as a lob threat. Even better, he is just 24 years of age (he will turn 25 later this month), so he should still have room for improvement, especially offensively. He showed some early signs of developing a reliable 3-point shot in the five games he played this past season before shoulder surgery shut him down for the rest of the campaign.
