As the Chargers finish up minicamp and start training camp next month, we all know that Los Angeles has superstars on the roster. Justin Herbert, Khalil Mack, Derwin James, and Rashawn Slater lead a Chargers roster filled with high-end talent.
But which Chargers players are still flying under the radar despite their performances in powder blue?
EDGE Tuli Tuipulotu
Tuipulotu hasn’t had his chance to prove himself as a full-time impact player with Mack and Joey Bosa on the edge in front of him, but the third-year edge rusher has been more than competent in spot starts when those veterans have missed time. With Bosa in Buffalo this season, it’s Tuipulotu’s time to shine.
S Alohi Gilman
Gilman’s contract is up after the 2025 season, but the Chargers have consistently gotten production out of him when healthy. The Notre Dame alum always seems to be around the ball and has a knack for creating turnovers that make him one of the more valuable members of the defensive roster.
S Elijah Molden
Molden was just rewarded with a contract extension of his own despite breaking his leg late in the season, but he still doesn’t get enough credit for how much he unlocked the Chargers’ defense under Jesse Minter last year. He can play deep safety or in the nickel, allowing LA to put him, Gilman, and Derwin James on the field at the same time without telegraphing the coverage.
LB Denzel Perryman
Perryman’s value was evident when he was absent last season, as the Chargers’ run defense suffered a significant loss when the veteran was out of the lineup. His efforts also helped free up Daiyan Henley for a breakout season. Still the team’s best run defender heading into 2025, Perryman is also a valued locker room leader and mentor to Henley and Junior Colson.
DL Teair Tart
Tart signed on a flier deal last season during training camp with the Chargers seemingly struggling for depth on the defensive line, but Los Angeles quickly got an outsized amount of production from him in his first season on the team. With Poona Ford now on the Rams, the Chargers are trusting that Tart can take a step forward into being a full-time player.
