Coming into his rookie season, Caleb Williams was expected to be great right out of the gate. That was not the case due to a multitude of things. One of the more obvious obstacles was Caleb Williams getting sacked 68 times. The offensive line deserved some blame, as did Caleb Williams. When both improved, Caleb Williams really did shine in 2025.
In a recent article, Jeremy Fowler analyzes where Caleb Williams was most successful in Year 2 of his NFL career. Here is what he had to say:
“His 11 touchdowns thrown at least 20 yards downfield were two more than any other quarterback last season. He reduced his sack total from 68 to 24 year-over-year, too. And Williams’ 13 interceptions on 1,130 career passing attempts are an excellent clip.”
The Bears’ offensive line was a top ten unit last season, and Joe Thuney made a huge difference, as did center Drew Dalman. Caleb Williams, when he got more time, showed exactly the player he was at USC. His escapability talent was shown on full display, too, which improved his sack total. More than anything, Caleb Williams was given the chance to be himself this season in the pocket, and that is why the Bears’ offense and the team as a whole saw huge success.
