Brian Urlacher loves Rams' trade for Myles Garrett, still sees Seahawks as favorites

Myles Garrett’s move to the Los Angeles Rams stunned the NFL, with everyone anticipating what his impact will be now that the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year is surrounded by playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Recently, R.org’s DJ Saddiqi talked to NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher about his various thoughts on the NFL. During his interview, Urlacher was asked about the Garrett trade, stating the Rams made the smart move, acquiring a player with such an effective and individualized skill set.

“Huge. They’re going all in right now,” Urlacher stated. “They were in the NFC Championship last year, so they’re right there. That division is tough, man. You’ve got the defending Super Bowl champs in there, the Niners are in there, and Arizona’s down a little bit, but they’ll be back, I’m sure, eventually. But man, it’s just a tough division.

“To add a dude who’s a generational talent, there’s not a defensive player in the NFL who does what he does right now. It’s amazing that they got him. If you have a chance to get that guy, I think you make whatever trades you need to make. They don’t place a lot of value on their picks, obviously, because if you can get a player like him, you don’t know that you’ll be able to draft one like that.”

The Rams have used the trade market to add playmakers in their prime, including Trent McDuffie, Von Miller, Jalen Ramsey, and Matthew Stafford, all acquired during the Sean McVay-Les Snead era.

Garrett’s arrival is prompting many to believe the tide in the NFC has turned, despite the Seattle Seahawks’ championship success. Urlacher is hesitant to crown the Rams as paper champs, given that the actual defending champions are in the same division. Something he would double down on during his interview.

“Seattle is the favourite until you beat them. They’re probably one and two,” Urlacher stated. “Seattle is just going to get better. I don’t know what they lost or what they didn’t lose, but they definitely gained some experience, the playoff experience and Super Bowl experience. That’s going to help. Their fans are great. I think those teams right there are probably one and two.”

The Seahawks and Rams were able to maintain the majority of their 2025 rosters. However, while the Rams did not lose any major playmakers, the Seahawks did, with Kenneth Walker III signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. Walker, who won Super Bowl MVP, was the main attack that Seattle built their offensive strategy around when they defeated the Rams in the NFC Championship Game.
