Border 6 Fire crosses U.S.-Mexico border into San Diego. What to know

A vegetation fire along California’s border has burned 50 acres near San Diego and over 400 acres in Mexico as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2.

Cal Fire posted on X about battling the Border 6 Fire, located south of Dulzura, around 12:20 p.m. The blaze was not threatening any structures, the agency added. It is 10 % contained, according to Cal Fire’s website.

Where is the Border 6 Fire located?

On Tuesday morning, Cal Fire reported that the Border 6 Fire that started on Monday, June 1 “crossed the Tijuana River Drainage into the US, on the east side of Marron Valley.” It was 20 acres in the United States at the time, but reached 50 acres around noon.

The blaze is in a remote location that has rocky and difficult terrain, according to Cal Fire. The fire agency requested an aircraft for help.

What agencies are responding to the Border 6 Fire?

Cal Fire’s San Diego unit is responding to the Border 6 fire. The agency’s incident update said Mexico fought it on its side until the sun set and were working along the fire line as of Tuesday morning.

Have there been any injuries?

Cal Fire did not immediately respond to The Desert Sun’s call for more information. The fire agency’s most recent status update report, released at 12:20 p.m., did not report any injuries or fatalities.
