The blaze was first reported shortly before 11 a.m. April 12 in the area of Westridge Street and Tami Avenue, in the unincorporated county area of Harvard, according to San Bernardino County Fire Department logs.

The first firefighters to arrive on scene encountered roughly 3 acres of vegetation burning, driven primarily by wind and topography, fire officials said via social media.

Officials reported the flames had consumed roughly 15 acres by 12:20 p.m., and heavy equipment was called in to assist in the firefighting effort.

The flames were brought under control later in the afternoon.

As the investigation continued, deputies found Raymond Mann, 61, of Barstow nearby and arrested him about 2 p.m., according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials and jail records.

He was booked on suspicion of arson and recklessly causing a fire and resisting or obstructing police.

Bail was set at $70,000 pending an initial court appearance.
