The recipe for success for NFL teams is getting an elite head coach and quarterback together. That leads to championships. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick did it for years in New England, being the most winning QB-coach duo ever. More recently, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have ruled the league. The Chicago Bears may have a duo in the beginning stages of following that path: Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson.
The Caleb Williams and Patrick Mahomes comparisons exist. Last season, Caleb began to live up to them. Caleb Williams has a rare clutch gene that is not seen in too many quarterbacks. Another rare skill he has is his escapability. Those two factors make you think of Patrick Mahomes. Now that Patrick Mahomes is getting older, his grip on the AFC is slipping through his fingers. There could be a shift in power where Caleb is beginning to have a similar effect in the NFC.
Ben Johnson is as creative as it gets offensively. He was one of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL, and in his first year as a head coach, he completely shifted things around for the Bears. Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams created magic together as a duo, and that magic led to early success in year 1.
The Bears are in the hardest division in the NFL, and they won it in year 1 of this new era. Year 2 and the next years of this duo of Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson, it is safe to say, there will be more division titles. Taking that a step further, I think this duo can win championships together and be the next successful quarterback and coach duo in the NFL.
