Baltimore – How about another pitcher injury for the Tigers.
Before the game, the Tigers put right-handed reliever Burch Smith on the injured list with shoulder inflammation.
Then, in the fifth inning Friday night, lefty reliever Brant Hurter bent over in pain after delivering a pitch. He walked slowly off the field, in obvious discomfort.
“It was a back issue,” manager AJ Hinch said after the Tigers’ 7-4 loss to the Orioles. “I saw it on the delivery. I don’t know if it was related to the mound or it being wet. He just kept saying it was his back and we got him out of there.”
Hurter was expected to have tests done on his back Friday night.
