Lefty Brant Hurter leaves Tigers' game with apparent leg injury

Baltimore – How about another pitcher injury for the Tigers.

Before the game, the Tigers put right-handed reliever Burch Smith on the injured list with shoulder inflammation.

Then, in the fifth inning Friday night, lefty reliever Brant Hurter slipped while delivering a pitch and came up hobbling. He walked slowly off the field, in obvious discomfort.

The game was played in a steady rain, so it’s not surprising the mound was slippery.

There was no immediate word on the exact nature of the injury.
