The defense of the national championship is on the line today for Texas softball. The Longhorns must win tonight at McCombs field in Austin against Arizona State or the UT season is over. ASU won Game 1 of the best of three NCAA Softball Tournament Super Regional, 4-1.
Texas, owners of the No. 2 overall seed, struggled against the giant killing Sun Devils. ASU has scored upsets of Texas Tech in the Big 12 tournament and Texas A&M in the College Station in the Regional.
Star Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan struggled against ASU, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks. The junior from Iowa was the Most Outstanding Player of last year’s WCWS.
Meanwhile, ASU ace pitcher Kenzie Brown dominated, allowing just one run on four hits in a complete game that included 10 strikeouts. Catcher Samantha Swan powered the offense in Game 1, going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs.
