A head-on collision along Bear Valley Road on Friday evening left a 28-year-old Apple Valley man dead and two children injured, law enforcement officials said.
The fatal two-vehicle wreck took place about 7:45 p.m. Aug. 7 at Bear Valley Road and Deep Creek Road.
Deputies learned a 2007 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SUV was being driven west on Deep Creek Road by a 36-year-old Barstow man prior to the impact. A 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck was headed east, with a 28-year-old Apple Valley man at the wheel and two children riding as passengers.
“[The Land Rover] drove into eastbound lanes of travel and collided head-on with [the Chevrolet] vehicle,” sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.
The Apple Valley man died from his injuries at the scene, authorities said. His identity was not yet released pending notification of family by coroner’s officials.
The passengers in his car were hospitalized in what sheriff’s officials described as “stable” condition.
The other involved driver “remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation until he was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment,” according to the statement.
“At this time, it is unclear if intoxication was determined to be a factor in the collision,” sheriff’s officials stated.
The cause and circumstances of the crash remained under investigation by the sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
