A suspect surrendered to investigators Saturday afternoon following a fatal shooting in Hesperia on Friday night.
Reports of “shots fired” about 7:50 p.m. Aug. 7 first drew deputies to Hesperia Road and Yucca Street, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Jenny Smith.
Upon arrival, deputies “located an adult male with a gunshot wound,” she said. Medical aid was provided, but the victim died at the scene.
Sheriff’s officials identified the victim as Esteven Contreras, 31, of Hesperia.
The attacker fled the area in a vehicle before deputies arrived.
“An extensive investigation was initiated, and Eduardo Bojorquez was identified as the suspect,” according to a sheriff’s department statement.
Bojorquez, 48, of Hesperia, turned himself in at the Hesperia Police Department about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, county jail records show.
Information regarding a possible motive in the shooting was not available.
He was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held without bail pending an initial court appearance.
