Man shot in Ventura dies days later at hospital; no arrests yet

A man who was shot in Ventura died from his injuries Aug. 8, four days after his shooting, according to the Ventura Police Department.

No arrests have been made in the shooting, but it appeared to be isolated, police said in an Aug. 9 news release. Officers said they do not believe there is a threat to the community but would not say anything more.

On Aug. 4, officers responded to the area of Riverside and Ramona streets around 1:05 a.m. after reports of a shooting, police said.

Police did not find any victims in the area although previous reporting indicated otherwise. The shooter had also fled the scene prior to officers arriving, police have said.

Ventura police said officers learned a man had arrived at Ventura County Medical Center with gunshot wounds Aug. 4, according to the news release. The man was being treated at the hospital until his death, police said.

The man’s death marks the second homicide in Ventura in 2026.
