The frustration within the UCLA Bruins’ football program seems to be reaching new heights, as on Friday a bus drove through Westwood with electronic messages plastered on the van critiquing UCLA’s athletic director, Martin Jarmond.
Jarmond has been getting ripped constantly lately, with many UCLA supporters frustrated that Jarmond kept his job while head coach DeShaun Foster was fired. Perhaps Jarmond’s days with the universities are numbered but after receiving an extension from UCLA less than a year ago, he may stick around.

The van had the messages “UCLA Football deserves better Fire AD Martin Jarmond,” “Empty Rose Bowl & Huge Debt UCLA Football Fans Know AD Martin Jarmond Has To Go,” and “$7 Million Buyout For UCLA’s AD? Failure Never Paid So Well,” and “DeShaun Foster Is Still An All-Time Great Bruin.”
The van shares a sentiment that much of the UCLA fanbase shares but it’s a unique way to get that message into the headlines. UCLA’s administration can act as if there’s no problems within the athletic department but acts like what we saw on Friday shows that’s not the case within the fanbase.
UCLA is 0-3 and have fired Foster, who was hired by Jarmond despite not having experience as a head coach or as a coordinator. Jarmond has made it sound that UCLA’s next head coaching hire won’t be solely his decision but instead be decided by a hiring committee, that may or many not include Jarmond.
UCLA Athletics may be in fine shape outside of football but in the Big Ten Conference, football is king and Bruins’ fans don’t believe that Jarmond is capable of turning the football program around and they’re making it abundantly clear.
