49ers superstar suffers injury on first offensive play vs. Bears

The San Francisco 49ers hosted the Chicago Bears on Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium in a pivotal NFC matchup, and the game couldn’t have started worse for Kyle Shanahan’s squad.

After receiving the opening kickoff, Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards intercepted 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and returned it for a touchdown. On the same play, 49ers left tackle Trent Williams hobbled off the field and went to the blue medical tent.

It’s unclear exactly what happened to Williams, but San Francisco sent Austen Pleasants out to protect Purdy’s blindside. If Williams can’t go for the rest of the game, this will be a huge loss.

UPDATE: The 49ers announced Williams suffered a hamstring injury on the play and is questionable to return.
