49ers starting offensive lineman leaves in first quarter vs. Saints with injury

The San Francisco 49ers entered Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints without a few key players on the offensive side of the ball, and halfway through the first quarter, they lost another.

After a third-and-14, 49ers quarterback Mac Jones delivered a strike to wide receiver Ricky Pearsall to convert a first down. On the next play, Brian Robinson ran left for three yards, and left guard Ben Bartch remained down on the field after the play.

Bartch slowly walked off the field with a limp and went to the blue medical tent. San Francisco brought in rookie offensive lineman Connor Colby, who got a lot of work in training camp, to take Bartch’s spot on the line.

It’s unclear what the injury is for Bartch, but he’s questionable to return in this game. This isn’t a great situation for the 49ers, considering left tackle Trent Williams is playing through an injury and is limited in what he can do to protect Jones from the left side.

UPDATE: The 49ers have announced that Bartch has an ankle injury.
