The San Francisco 49ers have already had several coaching changes early in the 2026 offseason, including 49ers run-game coordinator and tight ends Brian Fleury accepting a job as the offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Fleury had been with the 49ers since 2019 and had been the team’s tight ends coach since 2022. With that, it’s no surprise that 49ers tight end George Kittle reacted negatively to the news on social media after it was reported.
Kittle has only had two position coaches since entering the league in 2017, as Jon Embree served in the role from 2017-21 and Fleury took over from there. Watching Fleury go to your bitter rival who knocked you out of the playoffs and won a Super Bowl at your home stadium has to provide some extra sting for Kittle and the 49ers.
It will be interesting to see how San Francisco fills Fleury’s spot. Miguel Reveles could be an in-house candidate, as he’s served as an offensive assistant for the last three seasons. Deuce Schwartz and Jacob Webster have also been serving as offensive quality control coaches, making them strong options as well.
UPDATE: Kittle shared a longer tribute on IG on Monday
