49ers' legend named finalist for 2026 Hall of Fame senior class

The selection process for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class continues, as the committee announced their lone contributor finalist, lone coach finalist and three senior finalists on Wednesday.

Among the three senior candidates for this year’s class is legendary San Francisco 49ers running back Roger Craig.

Craig, 65, was San Francisco’s second-round pick (No. 49 overall) in the 1983 NFL draft after a four-year career at Nebraska. He spent eight seasons with the 49ers, one with the Los Angeles Raiders and two with the Minnesota Vikings.

In 165 career games, he rushed for 8,189 yards and 56 touchdowns on 4.1 yards per attempt while catching 556 passes for an additional 4,911 yards and 17 scores. He made four Pro Bowls, won three Super Bowls (all with San Francisco) and earned Offensive Player of the Year honors once (1988).

Craig’s competition for the 2026 class are former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson and former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end L.C. Greenwood.

To be inducted, Craig will need approval from at least 80% of the full selection committee. The class will be announced at the 2026 NFL honors.
