The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium for a Week 7 battle that could earn them sole possession of first place in the NFC West or could see them fall down to third.
Ahead of the contest, San Francisco announced a series of roster moves on Saturday, which included the activation of tight end George Kittle and defensive lineman Kevin Givens from injured reserve.
Kittle, 32, played 21 snaps in the team’s season opener, catching four passes for 25 yards and a touchdown. He’ll immediately ascend to the starting role, moving Jake Tonges and Luke Farrell back down the depth chart.
Givens, 28, missed half of last season and the start of this season due to a pectoral injury. Prior to the injury, he was playing over 35% of the defensive snaps. Upon his return, he’ll mix in with Jordan Elliott, Kalia Davis, Alfred Collins and C.J. West.
They also promoted defensive end Trevis Gipson from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, and to make room, they placed linebacker Fred Warner on injured reserve and waived tight end Brayden Willis.
Gipson, 28, has already played in two games for the 49ers this season, recording one tackle and a fumble recovery. He’ll likely play in a rotational role on the edge with Nick Bosa on injured reserve and Yetur Gross-Matos out with an injury.
Warner, 28, suffered an ankle injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week that will likely end his season. Tatum Bethune and Dee Winters will be the team’s starting off-ball linebackers, with Luke Gifford and Nick Martin mixing in.
Finally, the 49ers made two practice squad elevations for the week, calling up offensive lineman Nick Zakelj and wide receiver Malik Turner.
