2 men who died in head-on crash outside Camarillo named

Authorities released the names of the two men who died March 25 from injuries suffered in a head-on collision outside Camarillo.

Douglas Baron, 66, of Malibu, died of multiple blunt-force injuries, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office. Manuel de Jesus Rodriguez de Rodriguez, 48, of Oxnard, died from blunt-head trauma, the agency said. Both of the men’s deaths were deemed accidental.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash shortly before 1:30 p.m. March 25 on Las Posas Road, just south of Laguna Road.

The CHP’s initial investigation determined that a Porsche driven by Baron was in the northbound lane of Las Posas Road when a Ford SUV driven by de Rodriguez veered from southbound lanes into opposing traffic.

Baron tried but failed to avoid the oncoming SUV, and both vehicles crashed head-on and ended up in an agricultural field, CHP said at the time.

One of the men died at the scene, and the other was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks where he later died.

At the time of the crash, it was not known if drugs or alcohol played a role, CHP officials said. No additional information was available the morning of March 30.
