First responders arrived on scene to discover a gray Infinit sedan had collided head-on with a tan Honda sedan, police said in an written statement.

“Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, several good Samaritans removed an unconscious male from the gray Infiniti sedan, which had caught fire following the collision,” the statement said.

The man, later identified as Avila, was rushed to a trauma center by helicopter but could not be saved. The driver of the Honda was also flown to a hospital in critical condition as firefighters extinguished the flames, officials said.

Details regarding the cause and circumstances of the collision were not available.

“Detectives and a crime scene technician processed the collision scene, resulting in the closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes of West Main Street for approximately seven hour,” the statement said.

No further details were released.
