Detroit police shoot, kill man during home raid

Detroit police shot and killed a man during a raid at a home in the city’s northwest side on Thursday, June 25, the department confirmed.

Deputy Chief Arnold Williams confirmed on scene that police were serving a search warrant around 6:30 p.m. from a felonious assault case the man shot dead was accused of earlier this month.

Williams said detectives reviewed body camera footage and that officers were met with gunfire from the suspect when they entered the home and returned fire, killing him.

“We’re still early in this,” Williams added, stating the department intends to release more details at a later date. Michigan State Police will be handling the investigation, per department policy.

As dozens of police crowded the scene, a witness sat in his truck in a nearby T-Mobile parking lot. He told the Free Press he followed a police convoy of about eight cars heading to the targeted home on Rosemont off of 7 Mile.

“I saw them rushing to the house. Next thing I heard, ‘BOOM,'” followed by smoke, said Paul, who declined to provide his last name.

After that, Paul said he saw nothing. The action stopped.

“It’s been dead since then. Just people hanging around.”

Three days prior, on June 22, Detroit police shot and wounded a teen that officers believed was armed during a foot chase in Downtown Detroit ahead of the 2026 Ford Fireworks.
