It is no secret that there are massive expectations surrounding the Chargers entering the 2026 season.
Many players and coaches on the team will be under the spotlight, and soon enough, we’ll see how things play out.
Training camp is less than two weeks away, and Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon used one word for each team ahead of camp to describe them.
For the Chargers, Gagnon used the word “high-stakes.”
“It’s Year 7 for Justin Herbert and Year 3 for Jim Harbaugh, and the division is wide open. It feels a bit like now or never for a team that put all the chips in by adding Mike McDaniel to the staff.”
One could argue it is a make-or-break season for the Chargers. They have all the tools to reach a new level, as the time for excuses is over.
There needs to be a sense of urgency for the Chargers, especially with how wide open the AFC West is. The Chiefs and Broncos are the two other juggernauts in the division, but they are not invincible.
The Bolts have a great chance to take either of those teams down and finally capture a division title for the first time in nearly 20 years.
On top of that, Herbert and Harbaugh will enter their third season together. While they’ve collected 22 wins in two seasons, none of those wins have come in the playoffs.
It’s time to take the next step; if they don’t, some major changes may be needed next spring.
