A local middle school teacher and award-winning writer has published her third young adult novel, garnering positive critical reception.
Jessica Foster, an English teacher in Zeeland, recently released her third book: “The Framing Game.” The book follows Virginia Benson, who hopes to be accepted at Yale. When a graffiti prank is pinned on her, Virginia enlists her ex-boyfriend Xander for help proving her innocence. As the two investigate, the reader has to wonder whether the relationship will rekindle.
Foster likened the book’s theme to “Gilmore Girls” mixed with “Gossip Girl,” or even a bit like “Scooby-Doo.”
“I’m always here to have fun when I’m writing,” she said. “I feel like, if I’m having fun, the readers will, too.”
So far, response to the release has been “pretty positive.” In fact, the title received a Readers’ Choice Book Award Gold Medal before officially hitting shelves.
“I was blessed, honored, (and) excited to hear it already had great reception in that critical, awards sphere,” Foster said.
Foster added she’s grateful the community has been “incredibly responsive (to) and supportive” of her writing career.
While her first two novels — “Andy and The Extroverts” and “Andy and the Summer of Something” — are a pair, “The Framing Game” is a standalone title.
“This book is one-and-done,” she said.
“The Framing Game” is available at bookstores or online.
