Semaj Morgan praises Bryce Underwood’s zip, chemistry in Michigan’s 2025 fall camp

Michigan football hasn’t yet announced a starting quarterback, but it’s expected that Bryce Underwood will get the nod when head coach Sherrone Moore makes his official decision on Monday. Should the former five-star and true freshman win the starting job, it will raise both the floor and ceiling of the room, but also comes with some mystery as he’s never taken an official college snap.

Of course, the current Wolverines have played with Underwood since December, when he arrived during bowl prep. But some have had more experience with him than others.

Of those, junior wide receiver Semaj Morgan perhaps knows Underwood more than others, given that he’s played with him back when they were preps working towards the goal of playing in college.

“I used to play with Bryce in high school, 7-on-7 circuit, and stuff like that,” Morgan said. “So Bryce, that boy’s fast. It’s coming, but it’s like once it get in your hands, it’s good. It ain’t like too hard, too crazy, you know what I’m saying, to where it’s not a catchable ball. But, like, he zip that ball for sure. He be zipping it.”

Regardless if Underwood is named the starter, or if it’s Jadyn Davis or Jake Garcia (Mikey Keene appears to be participating, but not at full capacity), Morgan has full confidence in the true freshman, as well as the other signal callers. Because they’ve all taken the offseason more seriously and spent a lot more time together — getting familiar with each other and getting in rhythm.

That’s something that could pay dividends this fall.

“To be honest with you, since me already knowing Bryce, he already, like, know what I can do and, like, believe in me and stuff like that,” Morgan said. “So, like, him, I believe in him, too. Also, him, like with our other quarterbacks, all our quarterbacks, like, really believe in us and our abilities. That’s why I feel like this year and, like, this camp has been so much different. Like, we really building that chemistry. It’s really not that hard because in practice we go with every quarterback. So, it’s really not hard. Like, we could just keep doing what we’re doing in practice and then, like, throughout the summer we was doing, we would do, like, receivers and tight ends and quarterbacks and come work out by ourselves or something like that.

“So it wasn’t really hard to get the chemistry with Bryce or any of the other quarterbacks because, like, we really, like, focus on that process of getting better.”

Fans will get their first real opportunity to see the new-look pass game on August 30 when the Wolverines host New Mexico for the 2025 season opener at The Big House.
