Red Wings vs Avalanche channel, how to stream today's national TV game

The Detroit Red Wings are facing a familiar foe.

The Red Wings (32-17-6) are hosting the Colorado Avalanche (35-8-9) on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The first game of the home-and-home matchup is set to start at 1 p.m. ET and will be on the TV channel ABC, with streaming on Fubo (free trial).

The rematch will take place Monday, Feb. 2, at Ball Arena in Denver at 9 p.m. ET.

The Red Wings are coming off a historic performance against the Washington Capitals, not because of the result (Detroit lost 4-3 in a shootout) but because of forward Patrick Kane setting the career points record for U.S.-born NHL players.

Kane’s accomplishment salvaged some good feelings from Thursday’s home loss. If the Red Wings lose to their longtime rivals in the Avalanche, however, those good feelings will dissipate.

It’ll be a tough test for the Red Wings, too, with the first-place Avalanche sporting an NHL-high 79 points and on track to record their fifth straight season of at least 100 points. For comparison’s sake, it has been over a decade (2014-15) since the Red Wings have finished a season with at least 100 points.

The Avalanche, however, have lost three of four, surrendering a combined 19 goals to the Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens in those losses. The second-place Red Wings are looking to snap a two-game losing streak of their own as they try to keep up with the Tampa Bay Lightning atop the Atlantic Division.

Here’s what you need to know about Saturday’s Wings-Avs game, renewing a classic rivalry that began before the turn of the century.
