Police seeking tips about SUV-moped crash north of Dansville

WHEATFIELD TWP. — Police are asking for tips about a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a moped rider on July 1 in eastern Ingham County, north of Dansville.

The crash happened about 10:10 p.m. July 1 on Howell Road, near Burkley Road, Michigan State Police said.

A Holt man, 33, was riding a moped east on Howell when he was rear-ended by a sport utility vehicle, they said. The man fell onto the road and slid into a ditch and was taken to University of Michigan Health − Sparrow Lansing with “severe road rash,” police said.

Investigators believe a blue SUV was involved in the crash, and it might have front-end damage. White paint from the moped also might have been transferred to the SUV, they said.

“Anyone with information about the crash or the suspect vehicle is asked to contact the Michigan State Police Lansing Post and reference complaint number 11-3258-26. Your information, no matter how small it may seem, could be critical in helping investigators identify the driver responsible.”

The Lansing Post’s main phone number is (517) 322-1907.
