People paying weed tax can't even use Michigan's roads when high | Letters to the Editor

Dear Gov. Whitmer and the Michigan Legislature: Why didn’t you put a 24% excise tax on car registrations instead of thoroughly screwing marijuana users? People with cars and trucks need good roads. People who are high are not allowed to use the roads. You have made it very expensive for people to enjoy the medicinal qualities of marijuana. I’m not voting for anyone in office.

P.S.: I wanted to swear at you, but figured the Freep would edit it out.

Fall of the weed industry won’t stem from taxes

C’mon! We are hearing the same B.S. about increasing taxes on marijuana that we heard on alcohol.

The only problems the retail marijuana industry has are cities issuing too many licenses for their area (I don’t think cities care if businesses succeed when it seems they can make more money from licensing fees than business taxes), failure to limit employees sampling the product (been in more than one store and received a head rush when I walked through the locked door) and employees who are either ineffective or discourteous.

Don’t blame the failure of some retail marijuana stores on the tax. Look to the owners who failed to check the market before opening a store, just like every other business.
