Patrick Kane has a new home, same as his old home.
Kane has resigned with the Chicago Blackhawks, with whom he spent the first 16 seasons of his NHL career, the Blackhawks announced Wednesday morning.
“Welcome back 88,” the Blackhawks wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.
Kane is signing a two-year contract worth $16 million, or $8 million annually, according to published reports, after spending the last three seasons playing for the Red Wings. He was an unrestricted free agent.
Chris Chelios said on Chicago radio recently that Kane was down to the Blackhawks or Buffalo Sabres.
“How great would that be? You saw the reception he got a couple of years ago during the jersey retirement, Chelios said of the prospects of Kane returning to Chicago. “He’s so beloved in Chicago. I’m hoping he leans that way. “He’s still got some good gas in him. I think he’s got two, three years left in him yet. He had a good finish in Detroit, so let’s keep our fingers crossed. That’ll be great news if he signs with the Hawks.”
Kane, 37, was traded from Chicago to the New York Rangers during the 2022-23 season, before signing with the Red Wings before the 2023-24 season. Kane had 57 goals and 106 assists in three seasons with Detroit, though the team never made the playoffs while he was here.
This past January at Little Caesars Arena, the veteran forward passed Westland’s Mike Modano with his 1,375th career point, setting the NHL record for the most points by a U.S.-born hockey player.
Kane won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks.
