GENEVA, July 23 (Reuters) – The United States will give over $200 million in aid to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, its diplomatic mission said in a statement on Thursday.
“Today’s contributions support organizations that respond quickly when disasters strike, provide unparalleled access to people in need in conflict settings, and leverage preexisting worldwide disaster and humanitarian response infrastructure,” the statement said.
Under U.S. President Donald Trump, Washington has cut back donations to many aid groups, saying it wants to focus on “hyper-prioritised life-saving humanitarian assistance.” Still, it remains the world’s top donor and pledged $1.8 billion to the United Nations in May.
