A 41-year-old Monroe man was arrested after allegedly making threats against a local trustee organization and its employees, according to the Monroe Public Safety Department.
The investigation began on Monday, June 22, during which Monroe police officers and detectives reviewed text messages, written communications, and statements allegedly made by the suspect, all of a threatening nature.
Additional information was collected regarding threats directed toward government buildings and a state elected official.
On Tuesday, June 23, detectives interviewed the suspect regarding the reported threats. During the interview, the suspect admitted making statements involving threats against government facilities and public officials, according to the Monroe Public Safety Department. Detectives subsequently arrested the him and lodged him in the Monroe County Jail.
The investigation also revealed a prior incident on June 12, in which the suspect allegedly made threatening statements of violence while receiving treatment from a local medical facility. Officers responded and documented the statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
“Detectives continue to investigate this case, as there may be additional victims or witnesses who have not yet been identified,” said the Monroe Public Safety Department in a press release. “The safety of our community, public servants, and government institutions remains a top priority.”
