Michigan’s transfer portal class ranks 44th in snaps, but hidden additions could be vital

Michigan football may not have added a ton of big names via the transfer portal this offseason, but it added strategic help across the board.

Though there are some bigger names who did join the Wolverines (like running back Justice Haynes and wide receiver Donaven McCulley), really, many of them have been flying under the radar. Players like safety TJ Metcalf, defensive tackle Tré Williams, right guard Brady Norton, and wide receiver Anthony Simpson could play massive roles for the maize and blue this year, while the rest of the team is filled up with either recruits who came in originally to Ann Arbor or previous transfers.

ESPN quantified transfer portal experience for each Power Four team in college football, and Michigan came in with the 44th most snaps added to the 2025 team this year. Here are the stats:

New Mexico also had 35 incoming transfers according to 247Sports, though that number may actually be a bit higher.

The Wolverines are also one of the more experienced teams in the Power Four, with CBS Sports having Michigan football with the 11th-most returning production from last year.
