The spring season is winding down, giving the area plenty of top performers in high school sports in the playoffs.
Here is a look at the top performers of the week:
Sydney Shafer, West Ottawa tennis
The Panthers freshman reached the Division 1 state finals at No. 3 singles to lead West Ottawa to fifth place in the state.
Novella DeGraaf, Saugatuck track
The Trailblazers junior put together a versatile display at the state finals on Saturday, May 30. She finished state runner-up in the pole vault (10-9), third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.83) and third in the long jump (17-2).
Alina Martinson, Saugatuck track
The Trailblazers senior finished fifth in the 400 meters (59.44) and 21st in the 800 (2:28.78) at the Division 3 state finals, also helping the 4×800 relay finish third and Saugatuck take fourth as a team.
Charlie Robison, Saugatuck track
The Saugatuck freshman took third in the 300-meter hurdles (39.57), 19th in the 200 meters (23.00) and 21st in the 100 meters (11.18).
Jacob Tinholt, Holland Christian volleyball
The Maroons senior had a double-double in kills and digs in a stellar Division 2 regional final, a five-set loss to South Christian.
Andrew Legg, Holland golf
The Dutch senior fired a 73 at the Division 2 regional tournament on May 27 to lead Holland to the state tournament for the first time since 2003.
Linus Vandenberg, Holland Christian golf
The Maroons golfer shot a 77 at the Division 2 regional to qualify for the state tournament as an individual.
Will Nagelvoort, West Ottawa golf
The Panther shot a 74 at the Division 1 regional tournament to qualify for the state finals as an individual.
Grant Schrotenboer, Saugatuck golf
The Trailblazer reached the state finals in Division 4 as an individual. He shot a 77 to finish first at regionals among individual qualifiers and third overall in the region.
Ginny Cerneugel, Saugatuck soccer
The Trailblazers goalie made two saves in a shootout win over Zion Christian in the semifinals of districts, then held on for another shootout win in the finals over Black River to lead Saugatuck to the district title.
Abi Rhoades, Black River soccer
The River Rat scored two goals in the district semifinals to lead Black River past Fennville 4-0 and into the district finals.
Bella Goetsch, Hamilton softball
The Hawkeyes pitcher threw a five-inning perfect game in the Division 2 district semifinals, a 10-0 win over Holland to put Hamilton into the district finals.
Isabelle Sliter, Fennville track
The Blackhawks distance runner took 21st in the 1,600 (5:54.01) and 22nd in the 3,200 (13:20.66) at the Division 3 state finals.
Jonas Ballard, Black River track
The River Rat took 13th in the 3,200 (9:54.34) at the Division 3 state finals.
Julian Weimer, Fennville track
The Blackhawks freshman finished 15th in the long jump (19-11 3/4) at the Division 3 state meet.
Calvary 4×800 relay
The Crusaders finished runner-up in the 4×800 relay as Christian Getz, Elijah Laninga, Noah Schipper and Gibson White crossed the finish in 8:16.52 at the Division 4 state finals.
Camryn Siegers, Holland Christian track
The Maroons junior finished second in the high jump (5-7) at the Division 2 state championships to lead the Maroons to second place overall.
Holland Christian 4×800 relay
The Maroons foursome of junior Eliana Stob, sophomore Annika Stob, junior Ellery Lampen and senior Geurink won the 4×800 relay in 9:20.75 at the Division 2 state finals, helping the Maroons finish second overall.
Kate Van Appledorn, Holland Christian track
The Maroons senior threw a personal best 41-5 1/4 in the shot put to finish fourth at the Division 2 state finals.
Hudsen Hulst, Hamilton track
The Hawkeyes senior capped his athletic career with a PR in the 110 hurdles with 14.48 seconds for a third place finish at the Division 2 state finals.
West Ottawa 4×800 relay
The Panthers quartet of Ella Wierks, Lyla Dowling, Mary Dolbow and Collette Wierks took third in the 4×800 relay (9:11.49) a the Division 1 state finals. Collette and Ella also went 2-3 in the 800.
Lily Huizenga, Zeeland East track
The Chix thrower took fourth in the shot put (42-0) at the Division 1 state finals and earn all-state honors.
Adalyn Raab, Zeeland East track
The Chix sophomore took fifth in the 1,600 meters and helped the team earn all-state honors in the 4×400 relay at the Division 1 state finals.
Johanna Mulder, Holland track
The Dutch junior raced to 18th in the 3,200 meters (11:04.48) at the Division 1 state finals.
Austin Lee, Zeeland East track
The Chix pole vaulter finished seventh to earn all-state honors with a height of 14-9 at the Division 1 state finals.
Sam Sietsema, Zeeland East track
The Chix thrower took eighth in the discus (152-3) and 19th in the shot put (48-10) at the Division 1 state finals.
Clayton Ramsdall, Zeeland West track
The Dux leaper earned all-state honors with an eighth-place finish in the high jump (6-5) at the Division 1 state finals.
