Athlete of the Week candidates
Mei Simmons, Dalton softball
In Dalton’s 3-1 Division VI regional semifinal win over Hillsdale on Wednesday, Simmons earned the win by striking out 11 hitters, gave up one earned run, five hits and had one walk on 117 pitches in seven innings. In Dalton’s 3-0 Division VI regional final win over Mogadore on Saturday, Simmons earned her second win of the week by striking out 13 batters, gave up just one hit, zero earned runs and one walk on 85 pitches in seven innings.
MaKenna Heyden, Norwayne softball
Heyden had four RBIs, hit one home run on two hits in Norwayne’s 10-8 win over Tuslaw in Wednesday’s Division V regional semifinal.
Kailey Valentine, Tuslaw softball
Despite losing to Norwayne 10-8 in Wednesday’s Division V regional semifinal, Valentine had four hits, 2 RBIs and scored two runs in four at-bats.
Brayden Steiner, Waynedale baseball
Steiner delivered a bases loaded walk-off two-run double to lift Waynedale to a 8-7 win in Friday’s Division V district final over Keystone.
