Here are The Sentinel's Students of the Week for June 5

We’re back with one last collection of exceptional local students for 2025-26.

Each week, high school principals and staffers around Holland share their nominees for Student of the Week with The Sentinel. We share those honorees online Fridays and in print Sundays.

This week’s students were recognized for artistic and academic excellence, involvement and caring for others.

Jordan Garcia, Holland High School

Holland High School is proud to recognize Jordan Garcia, a junior, as our Student of the Week.

Jordan is an incredibly talented and dedicated artist who consistently goes above and beyond in his work. He often spends time after school and during lunch working on projects, and his commitment to excellence is evident in everything he creates.

Over the past two years, Jordan has had three pieces selected for the Holland Area Arts Council’s Debut Exhibition and is an active member of the National Art Honor Society. His artwork has gained significant recognition online, with some pieces receiving more than 30,000 likes on social media. Jordan credits his art teacher, Colin Mulder, for inspiring and supporting his artistic growth.

Jordan has pursued his passion through courses like Photoshop, Graphic Design, and Advanced Independent Study. Beyond the classroom, he balances his artistic pursuits with a job, has participated in basketball and baseball, and is an accomplished disc golfer — winning the district tournament last year.

Jordan is a friendly, well-liked student whose creativity, dedication and positive attitude make him a valued member of Holland High School. We are proud to recognize Jordan for his many accomplishments and look forward to seeing all he will achieve in the future.

Hayden Stancill, Holland Christian High School

Hayden has a quiet dignity about him. He’s respectful and thoughtful, always making sure that he’s doing his best and showing care for those around him. He plays in the jazz orchestra, as well as the high school band for four years.

Samantha Roof, Zeeland East High School

We are incredibly proud of our ZEHS Class of 2026 Salutatorian Samantha Roof! Samantha has distinguished herself academically throughout her years at Zeeland East, and this fall she’ll attend Grand Valley State University as a pre-veterinary major.

During her time at ZEHS, Samantha was greatly involved in Dutch Dance, Zeeland High Players, the National Honor Society, and Girls Investing in Real Leadership Skills.
