Brighton has placed five players on the inaugural Michigan all-state flag football team.
The team was selected by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association in tandem with the Detroit Free Press. There were 20 first-team selections from among 70 nominees from 25 teams.
Senior quarterback Emma Adamczyk and junior safety/wide receiver Rory Chiles made the first team for Brighton.
Adamczyk completed 73% of her passes, going 166-for-226 for 2,051 yards, 34 touchdowns, 18 conversions and only four interceptions. She was chosen Brighton’s Offensive Most Valuable Player.
Chiles made a huge impact on both sides of the ball for Brighton, which allowed only 18 points and had six shutouts in nine games.
Chiles caught 29 passes for 530 yards and eight touchdowns, making four conversions. The three-year captain had 11 interceptions, four of which she returned for touchdowns, to go with 20 pass breakups and 19 flag pulls. She was chosen the Bulldogs’ Defensive MVP.
Making the second team was sophomore linebacker Nadia El-Alayli, who had five interceptions.
Receiving honorable mention were Sarah Langley and Jillian Weaver.
Brighton was undefeated until losing 6-0 to Gibraltar Carlson in the state quarterfinals at Ford Field.
