Former Spartan sets career high in points in NBA G League game

A former Spartans star guard continues a strong season in the NBA G League; he set a career high in points on Tuesday.

Jaden Akins went off for the Motor City Cruise on Tuesday, scoring 33 points in a close loss against the Grand Rapids Gold. Akins knocked down seven 3-pointers to power his performance.

Akins is in his first season at the professional level and has appeared in 14 games for the Cruise. He is averaging 16.1 points, 7.6 assists and 4 rebounds per game.

Akins starred for the Spartans from 2021 to 2025, appearing in 138 games in a Michigan State uniform. This past season, he was one of the top players on the Spartans roster — helping lead Michigan State to the 2025 Big Ten championship and to the Elite Eight of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
