Detroit area roadwork: Construction updates on I-94, I-75, I-96, more

Warm weather is here, and so is construction season.

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans for additional orange barrels and lane and ramp closures in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties starting this weekend.

As construction continues, roadwork can be weather-dependent and could change. A map of construction locations can be found at Michigan.gov/drive.

Here’s what to know about the latest closures:

Interstate 75 near Nine Mile Road

What: Crews will perform substructure bridge work on the Meyers Avenue bridge over Interstate 75 south of Nine Mile.

When: Beginning 9 a.m. on Monday, May 18, and lasting through the end of May.

Closures:

Restore 94 updates

What: There are two lane and ramp closure updates for the ongoing Interstate 94 project in Wayne County.

First update: One lane will be open on westbound I-94 from Oakwood Boulevard to U.S.-24/Telegraph Road.

When: From 5 a.m. Saturday, May 16 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 17

Update 2: The eastbound Van Born Road ramp will be closed to southbound Michigan 39/Southfield Road. The northbound ramp is open.

When: 5 a.m. Monday, May 18, until early June.

Detour: Southbound U.S.-24 to eastbound I-94 to southbound M-39.

Current construction on I-94:

M-59, M-53 lane closures

What: Lane closures on Michigan 59 and 53 in Utica will take place as bridge deck patching happens.

When: Starting 9 a.m. Monday, May 18, and going until 9 a.m. Friday, May 22. Work will not occur during the holiday weekend and will pick up again at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 26 and go until 9 a.m. Friday, May 29.

Specifics: Two lanes will be open at westbound M-59/Hall Road from Schoenherr to M-53.

Greenfield Road over I-696

What: Greenfield Road is closing over I-696 in Southfield/Oak Park for bridge work. Greenfield Road exit and entrance ramps are already closed.

When: Beginning at 7 a.m. On Monday, May 18, the road will be closed for approximately two months.

Detour: Take eastbound/westbound I-696 service drive and use the crossover/turnaround bridges for access to Greenfield.

Upcoming I-696 closures: Michigan 1/Woodward Avenue will be closed in late May. Southfield Road will be closed in late summer.
