The weekend will bring warm weather, but thunderstorms are likely as well, according to the National Weather Service.
Scattered thunderstorms and rain showers are in the forecast for most of the state throughout the weekend, with severe conditions possible in the western Upper Peninsula on Sunday, May 17.
After a cold start to the week, warm weather is moving in with highs in the southern Lower Peninsula in the upper 70s to mid-80s. The northern L.P. and the U.P. are forecast highs in the 60s and 70s.
Though there will be periods of rain, officials are urging people to avoid burning because of low humidity, dry conditions and high winds.
“Active weather is expected into the weekend as critical fire weather develops across the western U.P. today (May 15),” the Marquette NWS said on X on May 15. “Please respect local burn restrictions where Red Flag Warnings are in effect.”
A red flag warning was issued for numerous counties across the northern Lower Peninsula and U.P. on Friday, and dangerous conditions will continue through the weekend.
